This 2009 1st Flush Darjeeling has a bright golden tea liquor and an soft aroma without the floral overtones present in most Darjeelings. With a pleasant but not strong astringency this tea comes alive in the back of the mouth. A tea with character and less harshness than many First Flush Darjeelings. Our first year with a Kalej Estate tea. We think you will enjoy the full flavor and lingering muscat aroma. It is the least floral of our offerings.

The leaves look very similar to a Bai Ho Oolong-very long, wiry, many shades of brown-so we brewed it as an oolong. The brew was too dark and rich for an oolong so we started over with boiling water and a longer brew time and WOW, we've never had a tea like this. Price per 1/4 pound

This tea grown in Darjeeling has been processed as an Oolong. It is a complex tea, definitely a Darjeeling, but gentle in astringency and taste. We recommend brewing it as an oolong, but some on the staff enjoy brewing it as a black, which makes it stronger and more astringent. Price per 1/4 pound.
